Luftwaffe pilot "Hans-Joachim Marseille" for Messerschmitt Bf 109

Hans-Joachim Marseille (1919–1942), also known as the "Star of Africa," was one of the most successful German fighter aces of World War II. With 158 confirmed aerial victories, predominantly achieved over North Africa, he is considered one of the Luftwaffe's most outstanding pilots.

Marseille was characterized by exceptional flying skill, precise shooting technique, and an unconventional flying style. He mainly flew the Messerschmitt Bf 109 and was decorated multiple times for his achievements, including the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds.

On September 30, 1942, Hans-Joachim Marseille died in a flying accident at the age of only 22, after he had to abandon his damaged aircraft.
