Adolf Galland (1912–1996) was a German fighter ace in World War II with 104 confirmed kills and was one of the leading commanders of the Luftwaffe. His military career began in the Spanish Civil War with the Condor Legion. From 1940, he flew as a fighter pilot and participated in the French campaign and the Battle of Britain, among others.
At the end of 1941, he became Inspector General of Fighter Pilots and remained so until 1945. In this role, he organized fighter aircraft production and particularly championed the use of Me-262 jet fighters. Towards the end of the war, he flew missions himself again with this aircraft.
He received high honors and maintained contacts with former adversaries such as Douglas Bader after the war. Later, he supported the establishment of the Argentine Air Force and returned to Germany in 1957.
